Gite no more

The last guests have left Amethyst Gite – the last ever. From today, Amethyst becomes our house! The big move across starts now. It’s going to take a couple of months to move everything. We have to relocate the front door of Amethyst (a previous owner bizarrely moved it from its central position – we’re putting it back) and install central heating first, but we’ll be starting to move stuff across from today. And boy do we have a lot of stuff! We are going to have to be hyperorganised as Amethyst is smaller than this house. However, we’ve always preferred it as it has the better room layout downstairs and has such wonderful views from upstairs. Plus we did a super job when we renovated it, we really did. It’s a lovely, lovely house.

Our current house becomes the Notaire’s House. A Notaire (lawyer) used to live here, Marcel Beaufils. We found his big brass notaire’s plates and many, many years’ worth of notaire’s journals and directories. The Notaire’s House and Lakes will be available for booking through the excellent Angling Lines company (www.anglinglines.com) from spring 2010. We’re very excited about our partnership with them and very positive about the future.

But lots to do first. We await a large delivery of carp to add to the existing populations in all three lakes. We’re organising an in-ground swimming pool to be built. And of course most of Notaire’s needs decorating. We did as much as was necessary to make the house habitable way back in the winter/spring of 2006/7, which didn’t include painting upstairs. Then we switched energy and attention to Amethyst to get it ready for the gite rental market in 2008. Other things kept cropping up but now that our very busy summer 2009 season is over, we can roll up our sleeves and get busy with the plasterboard and paintbrushes again. Well, maybe just a quick cup of tea first …
