Expat Blog Hop

Expats everywhere, please join in a blog hop on 23rd April. It’s intended as a bit of fun and to attract new readers to your blog. I’ve been in a couple of hops now and they really do draw in the crowds.

Please do a post on that day about anything at all to do with your life as an expat and offer a prize for one lucky winner whom you’ll pick at random, or a freebie for everyone. The freebie can be a local recipe, list of tips for expats, screensaver – anything along those sort of lines that you can create easily and freely and so won’t bankrupt yourself dishing out! If you opt for a prize, again, don’t go mad. Something worth a few euros is more than adequate. This isn’t a mega serious marketing drive after all.

If you want to take part, please sign up below – the bit where it says ‘Click here to enter’. This list closes on 21st April. On the 22nd, I’ll send you a list of all participating blogs to put on your site below your post on the 23rd so that folk can hop off to the other blogs who are signed up. That’s how the thing works!

Please join in. The more the merrier. Any queries, give me a shout via the comments below or the contact form.

  1. Sounds like fun – I’m looking forward to it. I’ve never done one of these before! I seem to have completed the form correctly since my blog title appears above now. I’ve also written it in my diary since I am apt to forget if I don’t write everything down.

    Happy Easter!

  2. OK, I’m in! I’m not sure that I completely understand the concept but will try to figure it out before April 23.

The part that confuses me is the give-away. I understand how to do the freebie for everyone, but if I do a prize for one person, from what pool of people do I pick a winner? Is it from the people who leave comments?

Can you include links for your past Blog Hop posts so that I can see what you did?

Should I mention it beforehand on my blog so that other bloggers can add their names to your list, if they want?

Thanks for organizing this – I look forward to my first blog hop!

    1. You can organise giving the prize however you like. The usual way is to invite people to leave a comment including their email address so you can contact them if they win. I then write all the names on bits of paper and put them in a bowl and get someone to draw one out at random to be the winner. There are websites that choose winners for you but I’m not quite sure how they work. Random.org is one I believe. I’ll have to have a look.
Delighted you’re joining in. It’ll be fun. And please do publicise it before the day. Feel free to copy the pic off my blog. The list is open till 21st so poeple can sign up until then.
Here’s the blog hop post I did on my Books Are Cool site. http://www.booksarecool.com/2012/st-patricks-day-blog-hop/

  3. Steph – really sorry I did it a bit wrong – the blog hop thingy so I resubmitted and got it right this time. Could you please delete entry no. 14 and leave what shows as entry no. 15 – so sorry to be a pain – I am total newbie to this stuff but learning! Thanks, Janine

  4. The blog hop sounds like a great idea! Thanks to Mary Kay for spreading the word. I’ll be traveling on the 22nd and morning of the 23rd. Can I just copy/paste the code for the blog hop into my post today or tomorrow, that I schedule for posting on Monday morning? Thanks!

  5. Thanks! I tried the code and it seems to work, though it’s a bit odd that below the list of participating blogs it also reads:
“You are next… Click here to enter
This list will close in 1 day, 19 hrs, 46 min (4/22/2012 4:59 AM CST)

    What is a blog hop?
    Get the code here…”

    1. I’m afraid it closed two days ago and I wouldn’t have a clue how to reopen it! I’ll definitely be organising another blog hop soon and I’ll make sure you’re invited, Timothea.

  6. great idea!!! Aren’t we ALL Expats in one way or another? As we are all strangers at nearly every place on this earth! This here is a Swiss woman having followed her Hero Husband to where he went for the past 14 years (that’s how long we’re married) and finding that her life has been incredibly enriched by all the lessons learnt along the way.
And book prizes are my favourite prizes – even better than Mary Kay’s glass of champagne – which is fine by me too!!! Especially with a view on the Eiffel Tower… 🙂
Do I now stick this code at the end of my comment? Oh, I am so ‘nulle’ with technical stuff!

    1. You’re right, Kiki. Where do we really belong?
Thank you for supporting the blog. Always lovely to hear from a fellow expat. And it’s cold and grey down here too 🙁
